The POST began publication in 1965 from the same offices near Fleet Street as Speedway Star. In fact, they shared the same editor in Paul Parish. Colour came to the front and back covers five years later, just two weeks after the Star began putting colour pictures on its front page. The Post was a monthly magazine which included plenty of photos, greater in-depth coverage than its sister publication could offer, a very welcome quiz and regular Rider Profiles. These were illuminating! Did you know, for example, that David Jessup’s favourite food is Sunday lunch? Or that Dickie May was a machinist in an aircraft factory whose hobbies were swimming and photography? Perhaps you already guessed that Dave Gifford’s many dislikes include British drivers, cold showers, Jimmy Young and cooking with Fanny Craddock!
